Java Station

Avocado toasts on flavored bagels and the aromas of the Klatch coffee will bring you back!

In 2020, when we first moved to Santa Barbara, we were totally open to soaking the vibe and the unique culture of this place. It was on a Saturday and after a tedious hike at the hot springs trail, that we found Java Station in our search results. On getting there, we saw for sure that this is a local favorite very quickly and effectively serving its customers. Scanning the menu and being a vegetarian, I wanted to try the Avocado toast here. It was when I was all set to place my standard order of Avocado toast on sourdough bread, that the staff asked me if I was interested in trying this on a bagel. Bagel? I asked myself, Sure, let me give it a shot, I said. What flavor? Wow, I soon realized that I had a lot of options. Well, I placed two orders of it and a cup of coffee. One on a sesame and the other on a jalapeno bagel.

Well, this is one of the best Avocado toasts I have had so far. It came with juicy tomatoes on avocado spread on fresh bagels and a slight drizzle of lemon pepper which gave it just that extra punch. I then sipped this aromatic cup of Cappuccino and felt totally energized and refreshed after my hike. I thought I had a really good brunch and left.

In 2021, I moved a little away from the Santa Barbara area and it was until yesterday, that I hadn’t been here. I knew what I wanted now. Meanwhile, I spoke to the Barista, Katelyn Tymon about why this place still remains my favorite and learned a little more about other house specials, like the Santa Barbara Melt. Java Station gets these fresh juicy tomatoes from the European Deli Market, located right across the street on the Hollister Avenue and bagels from IV Bagel Cafe in Isla Vista.

This place is busiest during 8:00 to 10:00 am and is buzzing with locals - students meeting to collaborate on class projects, professionals meeting to network over a cup of coffee and the hikers and bikers looking for a light meal after a tough calorie burn. If you are one of these or just happen to be visiting Santa Barbara, this is a must visit quick brunch spot to add to your list.
